First Round Results
UNLV women's golf opened up play at the Stanford Intercollegiate, shooting a team score of 304 (+20) on the Stanford Golf Course on Friday and the Rebels are currently ninth following the first round of the tournament.
No. 2 Duke, the defending national champions, was the only team to break par as the Blue Devils shot a team score of two-under 282 to grab the opening-round lead. No. 1 UCLA (291, +7) is second, followed by No. 4 Arizona State (293, +9). Amanda Blumenherst of Duke paces the field after she shot a five-under 66.
The Rebels were led by freshman Therese Koelbaek, who turned in the best round of the day with a four-over 75, despite stumbling at the end of her round on the par-71, 6,089-yard course. Koelbaek was one-under par with two holes remaining but had a bogey, double-bogey finish and is currently tied for 24th.
Natasha Krishna and Tonya Choate were a stroke behind as each carded an opening-round 76 (+5) to finish in a pack that is tied for 39th. One stroke back is Alejandra Guacaneme, who shot a 77 (+6) over her first 18 holes of the tournament and is tied for 46th on the leaderboard. Rebel junior Nicole McGirr rounded out the Rebels with an 82 (+11) and is tied for tied for 77th.
Of the 18 participating squads at this week's Stanford Intercollegiate, 11 are ranked among the nation's top-30 teams recognized in this week's edition of the Golfweek rankings, including top-ranked UCLA, second-ranked Duke and No. 4 Arizona State. No. 23 New Mexico is the only other Mountain West Conference team in the field.
