Rebels To Start Fall Ball

Oct. 8, 2007

LAS VEGAS - UNLV baseball will return to the field and begin fall workouts on Tuesday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, and Fall Camp will run through the middle of November as the Rebels begin preparing for the 2008 season.

The team will practice on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday each week, with the final workout taking place on Nov. 18, and the Rebels will also hold intra-squad scrimmages on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Weekday practices begin at 1:30 p.m. (PDT) with scrimmages set to start at about 3:30 p.m. On the weekends practices begin at 10:00 a.m. with scrimmages getting underway at about 11:30 a.m. All scrimmages and practices are open to the public.

Head coach Buddy Gouldsmith enters his fifth season with the Rebels and returns 18 players from last year's roster, including five starters and eight pitchers. The fall camp will also give Gouldsmith and his staff an opportunity to help break in 15 newcomers to the Rebels and it will be the first fall workouts for new Rebel assistant coaches Mike Kirby and David Martinez.

"The fall workouts will be important for our returning players to get back out on the field, for our newcomers to get used to playing at this level and for our coaching staff to get a feel for our team," Gouldsmith said. "I am looking forward to the upcoming season."

Scout day is Oct. 24 and Fall Camp will culminate with the Scarlet-Gray World Series, which will begin Nov. 13 and run through Nov. 18.
