USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The UNLV volleyball team (18-3 overall, 9-2 Mountain West Conference) pushed its winning streak to seven matches with its 3-0 sweep of the Air Force Falcons (7-20, 0-13 MWC) Thursday night at the USAF Academy, Colo. With the win, the Rebels continued its dominance over the Falcons by winning its 17th straight match in the series. The streak began on Nov. 19, 1999. UNLV won tonight's match by scores of 30-19, 30-19, 30-25.
UNLV out-hit Air Force .254 to .090. The Falcons now own the two worst hitting percentages by a Rebels' opponent this season. On Oct. 6, Air Force hit -.044. UNLV stayed in the .200 range with its .297 in the first game, .268 in the second and .208 in the third. Air Force was held under .118 in all three games with that tally coming in the third, while the first (.075) and second (.071) were below .100.
The Rebels were led offensively by Lauren Miramontes' match-high 13 kills. Sara Nehf knocked down 10 kills in the match, which marks the first time that she hit for double-figures in her career. Jessica Walters and Maria Aladjova tallied eight kills, apiece.
Nehf combined her 10 kills with 13 digs for her first career double-double. The 13 digs were a match-high in that category. Walters dug out eight Falcon attacks, while Miramontes and Gerryn Moran had seven each.
Melody Nua led the Rebels in assists with a match-high 28. Alyssa Erickson notched eight, as well.
Air Force was led offensively by Caroline Kurtz's eight kills. Kim Kallabis and Jessica Hellman split setting duties as they notched 16 and 12 assists, respectively. Defensively, Morgan Dolan had a match-high 13 digs.
UNLV returns to action in Laramie, Wyo., on Saturday, Nov. 3 (Noon PT), against the Wyoming Cowgirls, who swept San Diego State Thursday.
