LAS VEGAS - Gray used strong pitching to earn a 3-2 victory over Scarlet in game four of the UNLV baseball Fall World Series on Friday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
Steve Rinaudo had a pair of hits and Michael Brenly drove in a run for Gray, which capatilized on three Scarlet errors to scratch out the win and move ahead in the series 2-1-1. More importantly, Gray moved ahead in the points race with 88 compared to 82 for Scarlet. The point system is based on such things as two-out hits and full-count battles.
"The entire series rides on tomorrow's final game," head coach Buddy Gouldsmith said. "It has been a tight series thus far and it has been great to see everyone competing as hard as they have."
Stephen Singer worked four innings for Gray, giving up two runs on four hits before turning the game over to Justin Baca, who was stellar out of the bullpen. Baca gave up just one hit over the final three innings to earn the win, striking out three and not allowing a walk.
Troy Watson took the loss for Scarlet, allowing a run in the top of the seventh inning.
Jarred Wight had two hits and Drew Beuerlein drove in a run for Scarlet.
The final game of the series will be Saturday afternoon with the first pitch set for 12:05 p.m. (PT) at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. Admission is free to the public.
