It's Gray All The Way

Nov. 17, 2007

LAS VEGAS - The 2007 Fall World Series concluded Saturday with Rebel Gray earning a 5-3 victory over Rebel Scarlet at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The victory on the field gave Gray a 2-1-1 series win and more importantly, gave Gray the win in the point chase, 119 to 96 with a 31-14 victory in the final game of the series.

The Most Valuable Player award went to Stephen Rinaudo, who had a 0.00 ERA in 4.1 innings of work, striking out four and allowing just two hits in his start.

Rebel Gray, coached by first year assistant Mike Kirby, jumped ahead with an early run in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead. Scarlet knotted the game in the third inning but Gray answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good at 4-1.

Scarlet rallied for two unearned runs in the top of the top of the fourth to close to within one at 4-3 and challenged in the fifth but a double play ended the rally hopes.

Gray tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead and Adam Moser went three-up, three down in the top of the seventh to retire Rebel Scarlet.

It was a record high in attendance today for the final game of the series on fan appreciation day and the Rebel baseball program treated fans to hamburgers and hotdogs afterwards.

UNLV would like to thank to the umpires who worked the Fall World Series over the past two weeks and all those who came out to support the Rebel program as they prepare to embark on the 2008 Season.

Up next for UNLV is the 2007 Rebel Challenge, set to begin on Nov. 26. The challenge is a five day, 15-event strength and conditioning competition that recognizes an individual, as well as team winner. The Rebels will draft five-to-six teams to compete in the annual event. Teams will be announced as well as the date and time of each event.
