Mr. Popular: Bell Gets Prestigious Invite

Nov. 6, 2007

LAS VEGAS - UNLV star linebacker Beau Bell (Tustin, Calif./Tustin HS) has been invited to play in the 59th Annual Under Armour Senior Bowl scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, in Mobile, Alabama's Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

The game will kick off at 1 p.m. PT and be nationally televised by the NFL Network.

Bell is just the fourth Rebel player in history to be asked to compete in the prestigious postseason all-star game. Former NCAA rushing champion Ickey Woods was the first UNLV player at the Senior Bowl after the 1987 season. All-American cornerback Kevin Thomas played in it following his 2001 senior campaign and two-time All-American Jamaal Brimmer was the most recent invitee after the 2004 season.

Bell, the leading candidate for Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors, last month became the first player in school history to be named MWC Player of the Week three times in one season while also tying former All-American Randall Cunningham as the only Rebels to earn such an award four times in a career.

He currently leads the league with 94 total tackles (18th nationally with 10.44 PG), leads in forced fumbles with four (fourth nationally with .44 PG) and is tied for ninth in the league in interceptions with three.

With three games remaining, Bell also has three quarterback sacks, 6.5 tackles for loss and three pass breakups. He has climbed to fifth all-time at the school with 288 career tackles, which also ranks 10th in MWC history.
