LAS VEGAS - The UNLV's women's swimming and diving team won two individual events, while the Rebel men's team turned in several strong performances on the second day of action on Sunday in the 2007 UNLV Winter Invite at Buchanen Natatorium. UNLV is currently in second place on the women's side with 562 points, 18 behind Utah, while the Rebel men are in third with 396, trailing UCSB (492) and Utah (407.5).
Bailey Kustermeyer won her second individual title of the Invite, as she turned in a time of 4:25.81 to take first in the 400 IM, ahead of teammate Ana Dangalakova (4:27.39). Amanda Weinbrecht posted the other victory of the night for UNLV, as she won the 100 back in a time of 56.61.
Also turning in strong swims for the women were Marina Sandback in the 100 fly (5th in 57.36), Marva Harpak in the 200 free (3rd in 1:53.49), and Kuestermeyer again in the 100 breast (5th in 1:06.09). UNLV's 200 medley relay team of Weinbrecht, Kuestermeyer, Sandback, and Megan Hunt-Higgins finished third in 1:46.55, while the 800 free relay team of Dangalakova, Hunt-Higgins, Sandback, and Lara Sreibers posted a time of 7:39.53 to place third as well.
On the men's side, two Rebels earned runner-up finishes. Peter Lorring was second in the 100 fly in a time of 50.23, while Jonas Andersson swam a time of 56.69 in the 100 breast to finish in second. Andersson was also fourth in the 400 IM (4:03.92), Richard Hortness was third in the 200 free (1:40.83), and Devin Phillips placed third in the 100 back (50.93).
UNLV's men's 200 medley relay team of Phillips, Andersson, Lorring, and Hortness was second in 1:31.39, while Magnus Egmar, Hortness, Calan Eldridge, and Phillips were third in the 800 free relay in 6:52.13.
The three-day meet, featuring a total of 19 teams and 500 swimmers, continues on Sunday. The prelims start at 9 am, with the finals beginning at 6 pm.
