LAS VEGAS - The 40th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team has yet to surrender a point this season as it posted its school-record sixth straight shutout, 7-0, vs. Utah State at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Sunday.
The Lady Rebels improved to 6-0 after having downed their 2007 opponents by a combined score of 42-0 while the Aggies fell to 2-4.
UNLV began the morning by winning all three doubles positions for one team point.
In singles, All-American Elena Gantcheva breezed past Courtney Anderson at the top spot 6-0, 6-2 for her 70th career victory to go with just 19 all-time defeats. Nikol Dimitrova got by Erin Monson 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2; Kristina Nedeltcheva downed Brianna Harris 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3; Claire Smith posted her team-best 11th win of the season by defeating Dee Dee Nelson at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1; Sharon Marin won at No. 5 and Alisa Razina improved to 6-0 in her young career with a victory on court six.
"This was a solid weekend for us but we still identified some areas that need improvement before we head into the heart of our non-conference schedule," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "We are looking forward to facing three highly ranked teams later this month."
UNLV will take the week off before welcoming No. 28 Long Beach State to town on Feb. 23. Fresno State (24th) and Florida International (32nd) will round out the weekend.
