Rebels Earn National Recognition

Feb. 5, 2007

LAS VEGAS - UNLV baseball was named one of the nation's top five surprises by Rivals.com after taking two of three games from No. 19 Pepperdine this past weekend at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

After dropping the opening game of the series, the Rebels took the next two by scores of 9-6 and 7-6, winning the final game with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning on a game-winning single by Michael Brenly. The game-winning hit capped a strong series for Brenly, who knocked in seven runs in the three games.

The two wins over No. 19 Pepperdine marked the second-straight time at home that the Rebels took two-of-three from a ranked team in a three-game series after the Rebels beat then-No 8 Texas twice last season at Earl E. Wilson.

UNLV was joined on the list by Cal State Fullerton, Florida State, Mercer and the University of San Diego. The Rebels host the No. 8 Titans in a three-game series that gets underway Friday at 6:30 p.m. (PT) at Earl E. Wilson Stadium and UNLV also hosts San Diego later in the year.
