LAS VEGAS - UNLV sophomore center Shamela Hampton will be out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in Thursday night's victory over New Mexico, head coach Regina Miller announced on Friday.
An MRI on Friday morning revealed a torn ACL in the left knee. Hampton, who had started all 27 games this year for the Lady Rebels, was running on a fast break but as she jumped up to catch a pass under the basket, her knee buckled under her when she landed back on the court. She ended up converting the layup before collapsing on the court, and was taken off with 13 minutes left.
Hampton is second on the team in both scoring (12.0 ppg) and rebounding (6.7 rpg) this year, and was third in the Mountain West in field goal percentage at 51.9%. She scored in double-figures a total of 15 games this season.
The Lady Rebels will close out the regular season on Saturday, taking on Colorado State in Fort Collins in a 12 pm (PST) matchup.
