2007 Schedule Served Up

LAS VEGAS - The 2007 UNLV volleyball schedule has been released today by head coach Allison Keeley and it includes three tournaments and a total of 26 regular season contests. The Rebels will open up the season with the UNLV Tournament held August 24-25 in the Cox Pavilion and then hit the road for two straight tournaments. Following the conclusion of the three tournaments, UNLV will will play 16 Mountain West Conference matches and one non-conference contest. UNLV will play host to the conference tournament for the third straight year (Nov. 21-24). Overall, the team has 11 home matches compared to 15 on the road.

The Rebels will play 18 opponents in 2007, with seven of those coming off of 2006 NCAA Tournament appearances. The seven squads that made the postseason last year are: Arizona State, BYU, Colorado State, Hofstra, Santa Clara, UC Santa Barbara and Utah. UNLV will play BYU, Colorado State and Utah twice due to MWC affiliation.

The UNLV Tournament (Aug. 24-25) kicks off the season with the Rebels playing host to Arizona State, Texas Tech and Virginia. The tournament will consist of two matches on Friday and three on Saturday.

Following the home tournament, UNLVwill travel to play in tournaments hosted by Loyola Marymount and Nevada, Reno. The LMU Tournament will take place Aug. 31-Sept. 1, and will feature matches against UC Santa Barbara, Northwestern and the host, Lions. The Rebels will follow the trip to Los Angeles with one to Reno. The UNR Tournament will consist of Washington State, Hofstra and the host, Wolf Pack.

The conference season begins on Sept. 13 and 15 with visits by BYU and Utah, respectively. The team will then hit the road for three straight contests, with the last non-conference match (Santa Clara on Sept. 23) sandwiched in between trips to San Diego State (Sept. 21) and Colorado State (Sept. 29).

The team will open up October with home matches against Wyoming (Oct. 4) and Air Force (Oct. 6). The squad will hit the road the following weekend with trips to Fort Worth, Texas (TCU on Oct 12) and Albuquerque, N.M. (New Mexico on Oct. 13). The Rebels then have a two-week stretch in which they only play two matches. They host San Diego State on Oct. 19 and then welcome Colorado State to town on the 25th.

The Rebels being November on the road at Air Force (Nov. 1) and Wyoming (Nov. 3). The return home for back-to-back dates on Nov. 9-10 with New Mexico and TCU, respectively.. They close out the regular season with a trip to Utah on Nov. 16-17, with a visit to Salt Lake City (Utah on Nov. 16) and Provo (BYU on Nov. 17).

The 2007 Rebels return 11 letterwinners from the 2006 squad, which includes all-conference team members Maria Aladjova, Lauren Miramontes and Jada Walker. Last year's team went 20-10 and won 20 games for only the third time in the program's history. The team finished fourth with a 10-6 mark in the MWC for the fourth straight year.
