Several Honors Roll In For Skogley

May 7, 2007

LAS VEGAS - UNLV junior Kevin Skogley has earned national, regional and league honors following his 15-strikeout performance against San Diego State this past Sunday.

Skogley, a native of Hermiston, Ore., tied the UNLV record with his 15 strikeouts, which came in a complete-game, 6-1 win over the Aztecs on the road in San Diego.

For his outstanding performance Skogley was named one of Collegiate Baseball's National Player of the Week honorees, earned the West Region Pitching Performance of the Week by InsidePitching.com and he was named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week.

It was the second straight complete game for Skogley and he gave up just one earned run on seven hits and two walks as the Rebels completed a three-game sweep of the Aztecs. He struck out at least two batters in each of the first five innings, including three in the second frame. Skogley then struck out one batter in each of the final four innings to tie the Rebel school record. The 15 strikeouts is also the second most in a single contest in MWC history.

Skogley is the first UNLV player to earn national player of the week honors since Matt Luca earned several such honors following his no hitter on March 28, 2003, which also came against SDSU. Skogley is also the first Rebel hurler to earn MWC Pitcher of the Week honors in 2007, and he is the third player overall to earn league honors, joining teammates Blake Gailen and Ryan Kowalski.

UNLV concludes the road portion of its schedule with a three-game series against New Mexico which is set to get underway at Isotopes Park on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. (PT).
