Rebel Trio Drafted By Major League Teams Friday

LAS VEGAS - A trio of UNLV Rebels were drafted by Major League Baseball squads Friday afternoon. Kevin Skogley, Craig Heyer and Efren Navarro, Jr. were selected in the 12th, 22nd and 50th rounds, respectively.

Skogley, who was taken in the 12th round (389th pick overall) by the Chicago White Sox, went 3-6 in 2007 and garnered national and conference honors with his prowess on the mound. He held an ERA of 6.55 in 13 appearances. He tossed 78.1 innings, while recording 66 strikeouts.

Heyer was selected by the New York Yankees with the 694th pick in the 22nd round. He went 6-8 overall primarily as a starter in 18 starts and 21 overall appearances. He was on the mound for 110.2 innings and struck out 79 batters.

Navarro, Jr. was taken in the 50th round with pick #1,450 by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He held the third-best batting average this season by hitting .325 in 56 games. He scattered 63 hits with 14 going for two-bases and two as home runs. He also knocked in 31 RBI. Defensively, he held a fielding percentage of .998.
