LAS VEGAS - More than 100 players arrived at the Lied Athletic Complex on Thursday to take part in UNLV football's 2007 preseason training camp.

Newcomers met in the morning while the veterans arrived in the afternoon. After initial meetings, players filled out paper work, met with the media, took physicals and were issued equipment.

The Rebels open the 2007 season four weeks from today when they travel to Utah State.

"We're excited about the attitude and leadership of this team," said third-year head coach Mike Sanford. "We have something to prove and that starts now -- today -- with the opening of camp."

Wearing only helmets and shorts during the acclimation period, the newcomers will see the field first on Friday with a practice from 10:10-11:35 a.m. The veterans will hit Rebel Park from 6-8 p.m.

The first week of practices (August 3-9), which will take place on campus at Ernie Becker Sr. Football Fields at Bill "Wildcat" Morris Rebel Park, are open to the public.
