TOLEDO, Ohio - The No. 8 UNLV men's golf team finished in 12th place after firing a final-round 9-over-par 293 on Tuesday at the Inverness Intercollegiate at the Inverness Club (par 71, 7,255 yards).
The Rebels (302-307-293--902, +50), made up some ground during the last round and finished 50-over for the tournament.
Florida State (287-281-294--862, +10) shot a final-round 10-over 294 and hung on for the team title, setting a tournament record at 10-over 862 for the event. The tournament's previous record low total was 876 in 2000.
Michigan State (282-289-297--868, +16) finished second, followed by Florida (296-284-289--869, +17), Texas A&M (292-287-294--873, +21) and Louisville (290-288-297--875, +23).
Florida State's Jonas Blixt (67-68-75--210, -3) and Michigan State's Ryan Brehm (70-67-73--210, -3) tied for the individual crown. Both golfers set the individual record for low tournament at 3-under 210 and became the first golfers in the seven-year history of the tournament to finish under par.
Two other golfers finished under par and in a tie for third: Michigan State's Steve Cuzzort (70-73-68--211, -2) and Florida's Manuel Villegas (73-69-69--211, -2).
UNLV freshman Ji Moon (75-74-72--221, +8) led all Rebel players at 8-over and tied for 20th. Other Rebel scores: senior Matt Kinsinger (72-78-74--224, +11; T30th), sophomore Eddie Olson (78-75-72--225, +12; T36th), sophomore Brett Kanda (77-82-75--234, +21; T71st) and senior Jarred Texter (79-80-77--236, +23; T76th).
UNLV will be back in action September 22-23 at The Preview in West Lafayette, Ind.
