UNLV POST-GAME QUOTES

UNLV HEAD COACH Mike Sanford

ON WHAT HE TOLD HIS TEAM IN THE LOCKER ROOM:

"We just played the number five team in the country and they had to score a touchdown in the four quarter to beat us.

"Our team played with tremendous heart, belief and effort. We expect to win those types of games and we expect to be able to play with anyone in the country. Everyone in that locker room thinks we should have won that game."

ON THE ENDING:

"Travis made a mistake (throwing an interception) and it cost us. I am in no way blaming Travis Dixon for this loss. He is our quarterback and he's just going to get better and better. He showed tremendous poise. He is a great competitor and did a lot of great things tonight."

"On their naked bootleg (for the game-winning TD), Starr Fuimaono almost got Donovan. Starr made a lot of plays tonight but he just didn't make that one."

ON MOVING ON FROM HERE:

"We are never going to take satisfaction in coming close but I have tremendous hope for our future. I'm excited to get back to work and prepare for Hawaii. This is a journey and the next step is Hawaii and we are going to face one of the leading candidates for the Heisman Trophy next week."

ON WHAT HE WOULD TELL LAS VEGAS:

"I can promise to everyone that we will put our heart out on the field every game. We are making progress and I believe we can reach where we want to go this season."

"We are an improved group from last week. We need to get better every week. We have to get one step better to win those kind of games."

"If we don't have that turnover in the fourth quarter than I think we win this game. Just playing a team like that close is not good enough."

UNLV QB Travis Dixon ON THE NEAR-UPSET:

"We don't accept moral victories. We set a high standard for ourselves and we just let this one get away from us."

ON HIS INTERCEPTION:

"It kind of floated and I wish I had it back but I'll learn from it. It was a learning experience. It won't happen again."
