LAS VEGAS - UNLV baseball will hold its Annual Alumni Game at Earl E. Wilson Stadium on Feb. 9, signaling the start of the 2008 season for the Rebels. Admission is free to the Alumni Game.
The game is scheduled to start at 1:35 p.m. (PT) but the day will be full of activities that fans are encouraged to come and watch. At 11:30 a.m. there will be a Home Run Derby among the alumni and it will be between players from each decade. Each contestant will get six swings to send as many balls as possible over the fence and a champion will be announced for each decade. From there each squad will take batting practice and infield and at 1:25 the alumni will be introduced to the crowd.
All former Rebels players are encouraged to attend this year's festivities and they can still sign up by calling 702-895-3499.
UNLV has won five-straight games against the Alumni Squad, including last year's 22-2 victory and the last win for the Alumni was in 2002.
The current edition of the Rebels open their regular season on Feb. 22 at home against Central Michigan, the first of a trio of opponents that will make early visits to Earl E. Wilson Stadium as head coach Buddy Gouldsmith begins his fifth year at the helm.
