LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams returned to conference action in winning form, as they combined to win a total of three meets against Mountain West action on Friday night from the Buchanan Natatorium. In the men's meet, UNLV (4-1, 3-1 MWC) topped Wyoming 171-128, while the UNLV women (4-2, 4-1 MWC) posted a 168-132 win over Wyoming and 162 to 122 over New Mexico.

The men were dominant from the start, winning a total of 12 of 16 events, including in the first seven. Four double-event winners paced the way, beginning with Johan Claar who won the 500 free in 4:36.38 and the 1000 free in 9:23.60. Jonas Andersson took both breast events, as his time of 56.14 in the 100 tied for the fastest in the MWC this season, and he also swam 2:03.73. The other two double-event winners were Richard Hortness, in the 50 (20.75) and 200 (1:40.13) free, and Devin Phillips in the 100 (50.64) and 200 (1:50.13) back. Also winning events was David Seiler in the 200 fly (1:52.30) and Tiger Christian in the 100 fly (50.27). Both relays went UNLV's way, with Phillips, Andersson, Peter Lorring, and Hortness swimming a time of 1:31.52 in the 200 medley relay to win by almost three seconds. The 400 free relay team was comprised of Hortness, Phillips, Calan Eldridge, and Claar, and touched the wall in 3:04.73, exactly three seconds faster then Wyoming's A relay squad.

The Rebel women meanwhile were just as strong as the men, claiming first overall in 10 of 16 events. Kim Bonney claimed both breast events, swimming 1:04.82 in the 100 and 2:18.53 in the 200. Also winning two events was Marina Sandback, who touched first in both the 100 fly (56.45) and in the 100 free (51.14). The other wins came from Bailey Kustermeyer in the 1000 free (10:15.12), Amanda Weinbrecht in the 100 back (57.46), and Ana Dangalakova in the 200 back (2:04.37). UNLV would also claim both relays on the women's side as well. Weinbrecht, Bonney, Sandback, and Megan Hunt-Higgins began the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:44.38), while Hunt-Higgins, Megan Clark, Marva Harpak, and Sandback swam a time of 3:29.07 in the 400 free.

UNLV will next swim on Saturday, Jan. 19, when it hosts its Senior Day against Air Force in a meet beginning at 1 pm.
