Rebels Take On Gauchos On Saturday

Jan. 25, 2008

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be in action once again this weekend, as the Rebels go to the road for a meet at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. The meet has been moved back one hour from its original start time, and will now begin at 11 am.

Both UNLV teams are coming in after a succesful weekend in conference action, as the Rebel men defeated Wyoming and Air Force, while the women claimed wins over both schools as well as a victory over New Mexico. That gave the men's squad a 5-1 record overall, while the women improved to 5-2. Saturday's meet will also be the last dual meet for the men, while UNLV will have one women's meet left, on Feb. 1 at Colorado State.

On the men's side, UNLV is led by its distance swimmers, as freshman Kier Maitland holds the eighth fastest time in the nation in the 1650 free, while Jonas Andersson is one of the fastest breaststrokes in the conference.

For the Rebel women, Bailey Kuestermeyer is one of the strongest all-around swimmers in the Mountain West, ranking in the top five in five events, while the Rebels also hold four of the top five fastest times in the 100 back. Kim Bonney also tops the league in both breaststroke events as well, while Marina Sandback leads the league in the 50 and 100 free as well as the 100 fly.
