LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's swimming and diving team dropped both its season and conference-opener on Friday afternoon, as the Rebels fell to Colorado State 174-134 from Buchanan Natatorium.
The Rebels had two double-event winners and took a total of six events, but after winning the first two individual events, UNLV saw Colorado State take control of the meet by winning five of the next seven. That included a 1-2-3 sweep on the 1-meter diving that gave the Rams a 16-point lead, and CSU also won both relays on the afternoon.
Senior Bailey Kuestermeyer won two events, taking the 1000 free in 10:23.21, and also touching first in the 500 free in 5:04.73. Marva Harpak joined her as a double-event winning, claiming the 200 free (1:52.47) and the 100 free (51.97). A pair of freshman won the other two events for UNLV, as Katie Matulic was first in the 200 fly (2:07.31), and Marley Prothero won the 200 breast (2:23.53).
UNLV returns to action on Nov. 7-8 at the UC Irvine Shootout.
