LAS VEGAS - The 3rd Annual Legends & Friends Classic golf tournament, which will take place on Nov. 10 at Dragon Ridge Country Club at MacDonald Highlands, still has space available for golf teams. The tournament is part of two days of activities that are being put on by the UNLV men's basketball program and will culminate with the FOURever Runnin' Rebels celebration at halftime of UNLV's exhibition game against Washburn on Nov. 11.
For the golf event, the practice range at Dragon Ridge will open at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 10, with a shotgun start to follow at 12:00 p.m. Following golf will be a meal and an awards presentation.
On Nov. 11, the Runnin' Rebel Legends/Alumni basketball game will be played at 6 p.m., with UNLV's game against Washburn to follow at 7:30 p.m.
Cost for the golf event is $2,000 for three players, who will be matched up with a legend/celebrity. The tournament will be a four-person scramble and included in the package will be lunch at the course, complimentary beverages, tee prizes, a post-golf meal and tickets to the alumni game as well as the exhibition game.
The FOURever Runnin' Rebels celebration will honor the 1977, '87 and '91 Final Four teams from UNLV men's basketball's past. A celebration to recognize the 20th year since UNLV's 1990 national championship team is being planned for the 2009-10 season.
"The Legends & Friends Classic is a great event that allows both former and current Runnin' Rebels to come together," UNLV men's basketball head coach Lon Kruger said. "We have seen strong turnouts from players over the past two years and hope the third year of this celebration only brings back more former Runnin' Rebels to Las Vegas."
Former players scheduled to participate in the weekend's events are Greg Anthony, Freddie Banks, Sidney Green and Anderson Hunt among others. Nearly 20 former players are scheduled to golf including Anthony, Stacey Cvijanovich, Lou Kelly, Chris Richardson, Sam Smith, Robert Smith, Donovan Stewart, Leon Symanski and Bryan Emerzian.
On the court, over 30 former Runnin' Rebels are again scheduled to play in the Legends/Alumni game including Banks, Evric Gray, Reggie Manual, Warren Rosegreen and H. Waldman.
