LAS VEGAS - UNLV junior pitcher Stephen Singer went the distance for the Red team to a 3-2 win over the Black team in the second game of the Fall World Series at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, which wraps up fall camp for the Rebels.
Singer gave up just three hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking none to earn the win. He was backed by Jesse Wight, who drove in two runs in the win, hitting a pair of doubles. After giving up a two-run home run to Kyle Kretchmer in the second, Singer got his breaking ball working in the third inning and did not look back.
In the first game the Black team earned a 10-4 win, breaking the game open with a big seventh inning to go on to the win. Overall the Black team holds a 14-7 edge over the Red following two games, as a point system is being used over the entire seven-game series to determine the winner.
Starting on the mound Tuesday for the Red squad will be Brian Gilbertson while Glenn DeWeese gets the nod for the Black team, and first pitch is slated for 3:05 p.m. On Wednesday junior Matt Hutchinson will start for the Black while Red's starter is still TBA.
Every game of the World Series is open to the public and fans will be able to get a first look at the new scoreboard at Wilson Stadium, which was recently installed.
