LAS VEGAS - UNLV senior Bryan Resnick drilled a pair of home runs in leading the Black team to a 17-3 win over the Red team in the second game of the Red-Black World Series, which is being played at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
Resnick went 3-for-4 to pace a 17-hit attack that also featured four hits from J.J. Sferra and two each from three other players, as the Black team took advantage of a Red team that was missing players due to class schedule. The Red team actually carried a 3-2 lead into the fourth, but the Black team broke the game open, scoring six runs in the bottom of the fourth and then nine more in the bottom of the sixth, forcing the end of the game.
Justin Baca picked up the win for the Black team, tossing a scoreless top of the fourth and then benefitting from the offensive explosion by his teammates in the bottom half of the frame. Brian Gilbertson was charged with the loss for the Red, giving up six runs on five hits in 3.2 innings of work.
The series continues Wednesday, with game four slated to start at 3:05 p.m. Today's starters are junior Matt Hutchison for the Black while Red's starter is still TBA.
All scrimmages and practices are open to the public and fans will be able to get a first look at the new scoreboard at Wilson Stadium, which was recently installed.
