Little Dorsey Earns Big Award

Nov. 25, 2008

LAS VEGAS - Former UNLV star running back and kick returner Dominique Dorsey (Tulare, CA/Tulare Union HS) was named the Canadian Football League Special Teams Player of the Year at an awards ceremony last week in Montreal.

Dorsey took home the John Argo trophy after voting by the Football Reporters of Canada and the eight CFL head coaches.

The Toronto Argonauts' star was a bright spot for a team that struggled for much of the season, finishing third in the East Division standings with a 4-14 record. Despite missing the Argos final five regular-season games due to injury, Dorsey posted a CFL-high 2,892 all-purpose yards.

Dorsey finished second overall in kickoff returns (50 for 1,257 yards, one TD) and missed field goal returns (five for 187 yards) and third in punt returns (63 for 752 yards, one TD).

The 5-foot-7 sparkplug is the last Rebel to have rushed for 1,000 yards in a season, going for 1,261 as a senior in 2004. He also finished sixth all-time at UNLV with a kickoff return average of 23.4.
