Rebels Take On UC Irvine Saturday

Dec. 12, 2008

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action following their semester exams with a dual meet at UC Irvine on Saturday at 2 pm. The meet comes at the beginning of a nine-day training trip to Coronado Islands in California for the Rebels.

The Rebel men have recovered very well from the graduation of eight key seniors off last year's squad, as they have a 2-0 record on the year, and also won the Nike Cup in Long Beach, Calif. in November. Leading the way have been the underclassmen, most notably John Mendoza in the distance events, Steven Nelms in the sprint free, and Andrew Morrell in the breast events. The UNLV women bring a 1-3 mark into Saturday's meet, and have been paced this year by senior Bailey Kuestermeyer and junior Marva Harpak.
