WAHIAWA, Hawaii - The No. 21 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 10-under-par 278 on Friday at the 32nd Annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate played at Leilehua Golf Course (par 72, 6,917 yards) and finished in third place.
Auburn shot a final-round 19-under 269 to run away with the team title at 44-under 820 and broke the tournament record by three strokes. Texas A&M finished second at 33-under 831, while the Rebels finished at 32-under 832. San Diego State was fourth at 29-under, while SMU rounded out the top five at 23-under. There were 21 teams competing.
California's Stephen Hale won the individual title at 15-under 201 after shooting three consecutive rounds of 5-under 67. Texas A&M's Bronson Burgoon and UTEP's Herbert Day both tied for second at 13-under.
Junior Seung-Su Han tied for 10th at 8-under to lead the Rebels. He shot a final-round even-par 72. UNLV's other final-round scores, places and relation to par: senior Matt Kinsinger (70, T17th, 7-under), sophomore Eddie Olson (75, T27th, 5-under), freshman Ji Moon (69, T34th, 4-under) and senior Brandon Loska (67, T59th, 1-over).
UNLV's third-place finish marked its fifth consecutive top-five finish this season. The Rebels next tournament will be the one they host - the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship at Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas, March 7-9. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Admission is free.
