Three Lady Rebels Looking For WNBA Glory

April 28, 2008

LAS VEGAS - Three former Lady Rebels are currently on the training camp rosters of WNBA teams as they go into their second week of preseason practices. Sequoia Holmes and Constance Jinks signed training camp contracts, while Linda Frohlich is coming back for her second year with the Sacramento Monarchs.

Holmes, who recently finished her career at UNLV in March as a three-time All-MWC selection, and the conference's leading scorer this past year, is trying to earn a roster spot on the Houston Comets. The Las Vegas native has been in the team's training camp since the start of the preseason, and played with the Comets in Las Vegas on Monday afternoon in a set of scrimmages against both the Detroit Shock and the Monarchs.

Jinks meanwhile signed a camp contract with the Indiana Fever on April 23, and will be looking to make a WNBA roster for the first time after spending the past five seasons overseas. She was originally drafted by the Houston Comets as the 38th pick overall in the 2003 draft, but did not make the final roster.

Frochlich meanwhile returns back to the WNBA after playing overseas for Cras Basket Taranto in Taranto, Italy. The German native, who is UNLV's all-time leading scorer, has played a total of five seasons in the WNBA. She was the 26th pick in the 2002 draft by the New York Liberty and played three seasons with them. After a one year break from the WNBA, Frohlich returned to play one season with the Indiana Fever (2006), and joined the Sacramento Monarchs midway through the 2007 season.

This week all WNBA teams must cut down their rosters to 15 players. The final cut to an 11-player roster will come right before the start of the season, which will be on May 17.
