UNLV women's golf finished fifth overall and freshman Therese Koelbaek tied for fifth as the Rebels concluded play Tuesday at the Indiana Invitational, which was played at Crooked Stick Golf Club.
UNLV started the day in second place, but had a difficult final round and slid down to fifth, shooting 310 (+22) on the day to finish with a 54-hole team total of 900 (299-291-310, +36). The Rebels were led by Koelbaek, who earned her third career top-five finish with a three-round total of even-par 216. Koelbaek shot a final round 74 (+2), which came on the heels of her best career round as a Rebel yesterday, a 68 (-4) she carded in the second round. The four-under 68 tied for the fifth-lowest round and the fourth-lowest round to par in Rebel history.
The overall winner of the tournament was Purdue, which ran away with the team title and was the only team ton finish under par with a total of 852 (-2), good for a 42-stroke win over Ohio State, which finished second with a total of 894 (+30). Illinois (898, +34) was third, followed by Texas (899, +35) and the Rebels (900, +36). Junthima Gulyanamitta of Purdue won medalist honors, shooting a total of seven-under 209 for a four-stroke victory over teammates Maude-Aimee Leblanc and Maria Hernandez.
UNLV sophomore Natasha Krishna nearly earned a top-10 finish, placing tied for 11th with a final score of 22 (+6) after she concluded her tournament with a final round 77 (+5). It was the third top-20 finish this year for the native of Auckland, New Zealand.
Alejandra Guacaneme also played her way into the top 25, finishing tied for 24th with a score of 227 (75-75-77, +6), Melissa Mabanta (84-78-82--244, +28) tied for 66th and Kasi Lee (75-91-85--251, +35) finished 79th. Nicole McGirr played as an individual and tied for 81st with a score of 256 (83-84-89, +40).
UNLV will now have almost two weeks off before heading to the Mountain West Conference Championships, which is being played at The Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M., on April 16-18
