BREMERTON, Wash. - The No. 15 UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 23-over-par 311 on Friday and dropped 12 spots in the standings to 23rd place at the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Golf West Regional Championship, which is being played at the Olympic Course (par 72, 7,111 yards) at Gold Mountain Golf Club.
USC took over the top spot after shooting the 5-under 283, which was the best score of the day, and leads the field by five shots at 2-under 574. First-round leader Oregon is now in second place after a second-round 2-over 290 and has a 36-hole total of 3-over 579. Clemson is third at 4-over, while UCLA and Washington round out the top five - tied for fourth at 9-over. UNLV has a 36-hole total of 36-over 612.
Senior Matt Kinsinger still leads all Rebel players, but fell from a tie from 19th place to a tie for 74th after shooting a 7-over 79 on Friday. Kinsinger's two-round total is 8-over 152. Oregon's Joey Benedetti held onto the individual lead after firing a second-round 3-under 69 and leads by just one shot at 6-under 138. Wisconsin's Dan Woltman is 5-under for the tournament after Friday's 4-under 68. Washington's Nick Taylor is third at 4-under.
Other Rebel players (second-round scores, places and totals): junior Seung-Su Han (79, T87th, 10-over 154), sophomore Eddie Olson (77, T87th, 10-over 154), sophomore Brett Kanda (79, T96th, 11-over 155) and freshman Ji Moon (76, T104th, 12-over 156).

This year's regional marks UNLV's 20th consecutive appearance at an NCAA Regional. The low 10 teams and two individuals not on advancing teams will move on from the regional to the championship finals, which will be held May 28-31 at The Kampen Course at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind. (hosted by Purdue).
The Rebels are looking to qualify for its third trip to the NCAA Championship as a team over the last four years and its 17th appearance at the event in the last 20 years.
