UNLV Loses At Air Force To End Regular Season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV baseball ended its regular season with an 11-2 loss at Air Force on Saturday afternoon at Falcon Field.

The loss gave the Rebels a 21-35 overall record and a 9-15 mark in Mountain West Conference games while the Falcons ended their year with an 18-33 record and a 4-20 record in league games.

UNLV will be the sixth seed at next week's MWC Tournament, and will face third-seeded San Diego State at 1:00 p.m. (PST) at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. TCU, the two time defending tournament champions, is the top seed after the Horned Frogs won their third consecutive regular season title. New Mexico earned the second seed, and both the Lobos and Horned Frogs get byes in the tournament. The other opening-round game on Tuesday matches fourth-seeded BYU and fifth-seeded Utah, which gets underway at 5:00 p.m., and every game of the tournament will be televise live on the Mountain West Sports Network.

In today's game, the Rebels fell behind 5-0 after two innings and could not recover, as the offense didn't get on the board until the seventh inning.

UNLV starter Matt Hutchison gave up five runs in 1.2 innings on the mound to take the loss, dropping to 2-6 on the year. He allowed a two-run home run to Chay Derbigny in the first and an RBI triple to Jake Allen in the first, followed by a two-run triple by Allen in the second.

The Falcons scored six more runs between the fifth and seventh innings for their 11 runs, and they finished the game with 13 hits, including seven that went for extra bases. The run support gave starter David Miller the win, as he didn't allow a run in six innings of work, giving up five hits on the afternoon.

UNLV scored their two runs in the top of the seventh, getting two runs on an error with the bases loaded that allowed Anthony Morel and Braden Walker to score. Overall the Rebels had nine hits on the day, paced by Walker, who went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and a run scored.
