2008 UNLV Volleyball Schedule Release in PDF Format
The UNLV volleyball program, which is coming off its first NCAA Tournament appearance and Mountain West Conference championship, released its 2008 schedule today, as announced by head coach Allison Keeley. The 30-match, 22-opponent slate features four regular-season tournaments, 16 MWC contests and two non-conference tilts. The 2008 schedule is littered with seven squads that qualified for the 2007 NCAA Tournament, five of whom closed out last season ranked in the CSTV/AVCA Division I Top 25 Poll (#8 Florida, #9 Oregon, #12 BYU, #14 Wisconsin and #24 Dayton).
After hosting Arizona State in a tournament of its own in 2007, UNLV will return the trip and venture down to Tempe, Ariz., for three matches in a tourney hosted by ASU (Aug. 29-30) to kick off the season. The Rebels will square off against Dayton, South Carolina and ASU.
The Rebels open up their home schedule on Sept. 5-6, when they host a tournament in the Cox Pavilion, which will welcome Wisconsin, Cal State Fullerton and Miami (Ohio) to Las Vegas.
A trip to Eugene, Ore., to play in a tournament hosted by Oregon will commence Sept. 12-13. The Rebels will head to the Northwest with the likes of Baylor and Eastern Washington, as well as Oregon.
In week four, UNLV will combine a MWC road match with its fourth and final tournament of the season. The Rebels will begin conference play on Sept. 18 with a match at Air Force (Colorado Springs, Colo.) prior to playing the following two days in a tournament hosted by Denver (Sept. 19-20). The Rebels will play DU, SMU and Georgia State in the Mile High City.
After the Colorado road swing, UNLV will return home and host three matches in four days and a total of four contests in nine days. TCU (Sept. 25) and New Mexico (Sept. 27) come to town to open up the Rebels' home portion of their MWC schedule, while Nevada, Reno (Sept. 28) closes out the weekend with one of two non-conference affairs to be played in Las Vegas. A conference match with San Diego State closes out the four-match homestand on Oct. 3.
After the nine-day home stretch, UNLV hits the road for five of its next seven matches with a trip to Utah beginning the journey. The Rebels will head to Salt Lake City to play Utah (Oct. 9) and follow it up two days later with an Oct. 11 tilt in Provo vs. BYU. A trip home to Las Vegas to face Colorado State (Oct. 16) and Wyoming (Oct. 18) will split up the road matches before UNLV heads to New Mexico (Oct. 23) and TCU (Oct. 25). The following weekend, the Rebels will play at San Diego State (Oct. 31) on Halloween night.
The team will play four of its final six regular-season matches at home, as they welcome BYU (Nov. 6) and Utah (Nov. 8) to begin the home swing. A trip to Wyoming (Nov. 13) and Colorado State (Nov. 15) will finish out the road portion of the schedule, while matches against Air Force (Nov. 22) and Florida (Nov. 29) will close out the regular season.
The 2008 Rebels return 10 letterwinners from the 2007 squad. The team will be led by six upperclassmen: Camille Cunningham, Erin Greenwood, Gerryn Moran, Samantha Noland, Melody Nua and Jessica Walters. Last year's team went 24-6 and won the MWC Championship, which earned the program's its first trip to the postseason.
