UNLV Baseball Media Notes 
IN THE BATTER'S BOX: UNLV (20-29, 8-10 MWC) closes out the home portion of its 2008 season by hosting New Mexico (29-20, 13-5 MWC) for a three-game series that gets underway at 6:30 p.m. (PT) on Friday night at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. Saturday's game is set for 2:00 p.m. and the finale of the series will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m., and all three games will be carried live by KSHP 1400 AM. Sunday's final home game will featured a pair of pregame ceremonies for the fans at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. Rebel seniors Adam Moser and Braden Walker will be honored, as the pair will play their final home game at Wilson Stadium. Also, since the game falls on Mother's Day, mothers will throw out the first pitch of the game. UNLV is coming into this weekend's series following a split of a two-game series against Cal State Northridge earlier this week at home. Xavier Scruggs hit his league-leading 18th home run in a 10-3 Rebel win on Tuesday night, but the Matadors won 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
THE UNLV REBELS: UNLV is being led at the plate by Xavier Scruggs, who is hitting .415 (78-188) with 18 home runs, 60 RBI and 56 runs scored ... For the second time this season Scruggs slugged three home runs in a game, drilling a trio against San Diego State on April 19, as he went 3-for-6 with 8 RBI ... He first did it against Maine on March 1, as he went 5-for-5 with 7 RBI ... He was named the MWC Player of the Week on April 21, the third time this season that he has won the award (3/3 & 4/7) ... Jesse Wight is hitting .339 (56-165) and the Rebels have seven regulars hitting .303 or better and the Rebels are hitting .308 as a team ... On the mound, reliever Adam Moser is 6-4 with a 3.16 ERA and five saves in 28 appearances out of the bullpen ... Starter Corey Hales is 4-3 with a 5.46 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 15 appearances, 12 of them starts ... He also has the team's lone complete game of the year, which came in a 6-1 win against San Francisco at home on March 8 ... This is the fifth year for head coach Buddy Gouldsmith, who currently has a career record of 145-148 (.495), which is the third-most victories in Rebel history.
THE NEW MEXICO LOBOS: New Mexico enters this weekend's series having lost six of its last eight games, although the Lobos took 2-of-3 from BYU this past weekend ... UNM is led at the plate by Brian Cavazos-Galvez, who is hitting .375 (63-168) with 11 home runs and 43 RBI ... Ovearll the Lobos are hitting .315 as a team and have six regulars hitting .321 or better ... Friday night starter Bobby LaFramboise is 5-2 with a 4.11 ERA in nine starts, and he has tossed two complete games while striking out 51 batters in 57 innings of work ... This is the first year for UNM under new head coach Ray Birmingham.
SERIES HISTORY: UNLV leads the all-time series with New Mexico by a mark of 70-45 (.609), including a 2-1 series win earlier this year at Albuquerque. The Lobos are one of two MWC teams that the Rebels play twice this seson (TCU was the other). UNLV beat UNM by scores of 7-5 and 15-6 back on March 14 and 15, but the Lobos took the last game of the series, 12-3.
