LAS VEGAS - The No. 21 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 5-under-par 283 on Saturday and won the William H. Tucker Invitational by 11 shots at 12-under 852. The tournament was played at the University of New Mexico's Championship Course (par 72, 7,403 yards) in Albuquerque, N.M.
UNLV entered the final round five strokes behind host New Mexico, but turned in a score that was 16 shots better than the Lobos on Saturday to win its first tournament of the year. The Rebels finished second in their only other outing - the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational earlier this month.
New Mexico finished the tournament at 1-under 863 and was followed by Pepperdine at even par, Colorado at 4-over and Ohio State at 7-over to round out the top five of 16 total teams.
UNLV junior Eddie Olson closed with a final-round 2-under 70 to tie for first individually at 5-under 211 with Colorado's Derek Tolan. Pepperdine's Josh Anderson finished third at 4-under.
Rebel freshman Derek Ernst finished tied for fifth at 2-under 214 after a final-round 1-under 214. Senior Seung-su Han finished in 10th place at even-par 216 after a final-round 71, junior Brett Kanda tied for 11th at 1-over after a final-round 71 and sophomore Ji Moon tied for 16th at 4-over after a final-round 77. Sophomore Jeremiah Wooding competed as an individual and finished tied for 52nd at 12-over.
UNLV's next action will be Oct. 13-14 at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
