LARAMAIE, Wyo. - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams posted their second sweep in as many days, taking down Wyoming on Saturday one day after posting a victory at Air Force. The Rebel men outscored the Cowboys 140-103 to complete their first perfect regular season in Mountain West Conference history, improving to 5-0 in the league and 6-0 overall. UNLV won the women's meet 134.5-108.5 to improve to 5-3 overall, 4-3 in the conference.
The Rebel men won nine of 13 total events, and were paced by a pair of double-event winners. Charlie Tapp took first in the 50 free (21.25) and in the 100 free (46.97). John Mendoza meanwhile won the 500 free in 4:36.59 and the 1000 free in 9:31.26. Other winners included Akos Molnar in the 200 IM (1:56.10), Daniel Egly in the 200 fly (1:53.20), and Andrew Morrell in the 200 breast (2:05.30). The Rebels 200 medley relay team of Jeff Ellingsen, Morrell, David Seiler, and Thomas Andolfsson claimed first in 1:32.83, while Steven Nelms, Calan Eldridge, Tapp, and Andolfsson swam 3:05.15 in the 400 free relay to finish first.
The Rebel women saw two claim two events each, with Bailey Kustermeyer winning the 500 free (5:08.51) and the 1000 free (10:33.75), while Zsuzsanna Jakabos won the 200 IM (2:05.67) and the 200 fly (2:04.39). Other wins from the UNLV women included Ana Dangalakova in the 200 back (2:04.97) and Kelsey Clarke in the 200 breast (2:23.85). Amanda Weinbrecht, Clarke, Jakabos, and Megan Clark teamed up to win the 200 medley relay in 1:46.69, while Fridaerika Lisa Gillespie, Clark, and Marva Harpak won the 400 free relay in 3:32.78.
The next competition for both Rebel teams will be on Saturday, Jan. 31, as they will host UC Santa Barbara at 12 pm at Buchanan Natatorium.
