LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels (4-10) stepped out of conference Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-13, 27-25) victory over the Seattle Redhawks (5-16) from the Cox Pavilion. The Rebels offense tallied a season-best .340 hitting efficiency backed by .400 or better tallies from Cursty Jackson, Erin Greenwood and Sara Nehf.
Jackson and Greenwood used their hot hitting to tally 23 kills apiece, which are career bests for the duo. Jackson only registered four errors on 38 swings, while Greenwood only committed two errors in 44 attempts. Nehf chipped in 12 kills to round out the double-digit trio on .409 hitting.
UNLV came out of the gate slow with a .175 hitting effort and was hindered by nine errors, as Seattle claimed a 25-23 win in the first set. The Rebels turned things around from the end of the first stanza by claiming sets two and three with 25-15 and 25-13 scores, respectively. Seattle challenged in the fourth, but ultimately came up short at 27-25.
Amanda Alles came two assists shy of tying her career best of 50, as she dished out 48 helpers in the match. Besides setting, Alles contributed at the net with three kills and one assisted blocks, while notching six digs.
Samantha Richard notched 13 assists and eight digs, as well.
Nile Te'o led UNLV in digs with a career-high 18 and was joined in double figures by Kelsey Keeler, who tied her career-best with 10 digs. Nehf fell one dig shy of racking up her third double-double of the year with nine.
Seattle was led by a double-double from Jamie Mellies, who combined 38 assists and 10 digs for the feat.
Cristin Richards and Kaytlyn Dill reached double digits in kills with 21 and 11, respectively. Richards added five digs, two assists and four blocks (two solo). Dill had eight digs and two assisted blocks.
Emily Deleissegues led Seattle in digs with 15.
The Rebels are back in action next Thursday, Oct. 15, as they head to Fort Worth, Texas to take on the TCU Horned Frogs at 7:00 pm CT/5:00 pm PT.
