LAS VEGAS - While he won't get to play in his final collegiate game after undergoing foot surgery this week, UNLV wide receiver great Ryan Wolfe was voted his team's offensive captain for 2009, head coach Mike Sanford announced Tuesday.
The Rebels use different captains for each of the first 11 games before the team votes on permanent captains leading into the season finale. Captains must be seniors and there is one each from offense, defense and special teams.
Defensive tackle Martin Tevaseu (Boonville, CA/Santa Rosa JC) was voted captain on his side of the ball while running back Chris Brogdon (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista HS) became the special teams captain after excelling on kick coverage throughout his career.
Suffering his injury during last week's bye week, Wolfe's UNLV career ended prematurely but his 283 receptions were already the most ever for his school and conference and ranked him 12th in college football history.
The Rebels host San Diego State on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. All of the team's 16 seniors are scheduled to be honored on the field before kickoff. Tickets are available by at www.unlvtickets.com or by calling (702) 739-FANS.
