TEMPE, Ariz. - The UNLV men's swimming and diving team dominated Arizona State, winning every swimming event to post a 189-105 victory on Saturday afternoon, while the Rebel women suffered a 188.5-108.5 loss to the ASU Sun Devils.
The Rebels won all 14 events they entered swimmers in, with the only two ASU victories coming by default in the two diving events. Four Rebels were double-event winners, Kier Maitland in the 500 free (4:28.50) and the 1000 free (9:07.76), Andrew Morrell in the 100 (57.44) and 200 breast (2:03.62), Steven Nelms in the 50 (20.70) and 100 free (45.99) and Nick Blank in the 200 back (1:51.25) and the 200 IM (1:55.28). Also winning events on the afternoon was Kyle Virva in the 200 free (1:39.97), Michael Lowenstein in the 100 back (50.93), David Seiler in the 200 fly (1:51.81) and Cody Roberts in the 100 fly (49.54). UNLV swept both relays as well, with Seiler, Morrell, Roberts and Charlie Tapp winning the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:24.04, while Thomas Andolfsson, Virva, Tapp and Nelms placed first in the 200 free relay in 1:21.50.
On the women's side, UNLV would win a total of three events over the Sun Devils. Claiming individual victories was Brittany Ozar in the 1000 free (10:16.42) and Ana Danagalakova in the 200 IM (2:05.91). Andree Anne Genereux, Madison Rousell, Ozar, and Megan Clark then teamed up to top ASU in the 200 free relay, touching the wall in 1:35.32.
The next action for the Rebels will be at the University of Houston Invitational, which will be held on Nov. 20-22 in Houston, Texas.
