UNLV at San Diego State Game Notes 
IN THE BATTER'S BOX
UNLV (11-3) opens Mountain West Conference play and also hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to play San Diego State (8-6) in a three-game series that gets underway Friday at 6:00 p.m. (PT). The series at Tony Gwynn Stadium continues Saturday at 6:00 p.m. and wraps up Sunday at 1:00 p.m., and this is also the MWC opener for the Aztecs. UNLV is coming off a four-game sweep of Butler last weekend while SDSU rallied to beat UCLA 10-6 in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The Rebels wrapped up a 14-game homestand at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, which included playing four doubleheaders, and UNLV went 11-3 in that span, including winning its last eight in a row. REBELS AT A GLANCE
UNLV is now 11-3 following four straight wins over Butler last weekend at Earl E. Wilson Stadium ... The four-game sweep featured a lot of Rebel offense, including a 24-5 victory in the second game of a doubleheader last Saturday that featured a school-record 30 hits ... UNLV won its first three games of a season for the first time since 1992, and following three consecutive losses the Rebels have ran off eight straight wins ... Junior catcher Drew Beuerlein, who was named the MWC Player of the Week on March 9, is off to a fast start and is hitting .541 (20-37) with two home runs and 19 RBI to lead the Rebels at the plate ... Both home runs came on Feb. 22 against Maine, as Beuerlein went 4-for-4 with the two home runs, two doubles and four runs scored, all career highs ... Extra bases have been easy to come by for the Rebels, as they have 95 such hits, including 16 triples and 10 home runs ... A pair of freshman are leading the Rebels on the mound as Tanner Peters and Andrew Beresford have made strong debuts ... Peters is 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA in three starts and Beresford is 1-0 with a 3.31 ERA in a trio of starts ... UNLV head coach Buddy Gouldsmith has a career record of 158-159 (.498) and is in his sixth season ... The 158 wins are tied for the second most in school history ... The Rebels opened the season by playing their first 14 games at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, which is tied for the third-longest such stretch in the nation.
AZTECS AT A GLANCE
San Diego State is 8-6 after Wednesday's win on the road at UCLA by a score of 10-6 after the Aztecs scored six runs in the ninth to come back and beat the Bruins ... The Aztecs have four wins over nationally-ranked University of San Diego this season, including winning three-of-four last weekend from the Toreros ... The headliner for the Aztecs is starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg, who is 3-0 and was named the National and MWC Pitcher of the Week for a second straight time after he struck out 18 USD batters last Thursday ... Strasburg is 3-0 with a 1.77 ERA in three starts, striking out 45 batters and walking just four in 20.1 innings of work ... At the plate the Aztecs are hitting just .251 as a team, paced by Brandon Decker, who is hitting .324 with one triple and six RBI ... Cory Vaughn is the top power threat for SDSU, as he has a pair of home runs and 14 RBI while also scoring 14 runs ... San Diego State is coached by MLB Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, who is 177-196 in is seventh year with the Aztecs.
