LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's golf team, ranked 31st in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, shot a second-round even-par 288 on Saturday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship and is still in second place with a 36-hole score of 3-under 573. The tournament is being hosted by the Rebels, the Las Vegas Founders and Southern Highlands Golf Club (par 72, 7,510 yards).
No. 3 Oklahoma State shot 18-under 270 during the second round and is 15-under 561 for the tournament, 12 shots ahead of UNLV. Arizona is third at even par, No. 4 Clemson is fourth at 5-over, while No. 6 Florida is fifth at 7-over. The tournament features six of the top-10 teams in the country and 11 of the top 25.
Oklahoma State's Morgan Hoffmann shot 10-under 62 on Saturday to grab the individual lead at 10-under 134 and holds a three shot lead over No. 10 Georgia Tech's Cameron Tringale, who is 7-under 137. Tringale shot a second-round 2-under.
The Rebels are led by Colby Smith, who is in fifth place at 4-under 140 after a second-round score of 1-over on Friday. UNLV's Jeremiah Wooding, who is competing as an individual shot 4-under during the second round and is in sixth-place at 3-under 141.
Other UNLV team-counting second-round scores, totals and places: Brett Kanda (71, 1-under 143, T9th), Eddie Olson (71, even-par 144, T14th), Derek Ernst (73, 2-over 146, T20th), Ji Moon (76, 6-over 150, T41st). Johnny Pinjuv, who is competing as an individual: (82, 30-over 174, 80th).
There are 15 total teams competing in the event. The public is welcome to attend the tournament. Admission is free. Play concludes with 18 holes on Sunday.
