UNLV-Utah Game Notes 
IN THE BATTER'S BOX
UNLV (13-15, 2-4 MWC) returns to Earl E. Wilson Stadium and gets back to Mountain West Conference play by hosting Utah (12-12, 2-4 MWC) in a three-game series that gets underway Friday at 7:00 p.m. (PT), and the game will be carried live on 1400 KSHP AM. Game two of the series will be Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., and the set will conclude on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. UNLV is looking to bounce back following a seven-game road trip in which the team went winless, and overall the Rebels have lost eight in a row heading into Friday's game. Earlier this week the Rebels ended its road swing by losing twice at Cal State Northridge, 5-1 on Tuesday and 9-4 on Wednesday, keeping UNLV winless on the road this season at 0-10. UNLV is now 13-15 overall and 2-4 in the MWC after dropping a pair of games at Cal State Northridge earlier this week ... The Rebels lost by scores of 5-1 and 9-4, running the team's losing streak to eight, and the last seven of those have been on the road ... Overall the Rebels 13-5 at home and 0-10 on the road ... Senior outfielder J.J. Sferra currently has a 19-game hitting streak, which started in the second game of a doubleheader against Saint Peter's College on Feb. 27, and during that span Sferra is hitting .487 (38-78) ... Overall Sferra leads the Rebels with a .417 batting average ... Jesse Wight has hit a team-high five home runs while Drew Beuerlein has knocked in a team-leading 22 runs and is also hitting .407 (24-59) in 17 games ... Freshman pitcher Tanner Peters is leading the Rebels on the mound, having made a strong debut with a 3-2 record to go with a 3.32 ERA and 32 strikeouts in six starts ... UNLV head coach Buddy Gouldsmith has a career record of 160-171 (.483) and is in his sixth season ... The 160 wins are the second most in school history ... The Rebels opened the season by playing their first 14 games at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, which is tied for the third-longest such stretch in the nation.
UTES AT A GLANCE
Utah brings an even 12-12 overall mark and a 2-4 league record into this weekend's series after beating Utah Valley on Tuesday, 9-6 ... The Utes have won five of their last six games, including a 9-8 win at then No. 14 TCU on March 22 ... Utah is 3-3 at home and 9-9 on the road ... At the plate the Utes are hitting .280 as a team, paced by Nick Kuroczko, who is hitting .354 (29-82) with six triples and two doubles ... Corey Shimada is hitting .330 and has a team-high eight steals in 11 attempts ... Friday-night starter Brian Budrow is 3-1 with a 3.83 ERA in six starts, striking out 34 and walking eight in 40 innings of work ... Utah is coached by Bill Kinneberg, who is 139-157-1 in his sixth year with the Utes and 384-340 in his 12th year as a collegiate head coach.
