UNLV-Texas Tech Game Notes 
IN THE BATTER'S BOX
UNLV (20-18, 5-7 MWC) begins a five-game road trip with a pair of non-conference games at Texas Tech with the first game set for 5:00 p.m. (PT) at Dan Law Field, with the second game of the series slated for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. The Rebels are still searching for their first win on the road, as they are 0-10 on the year, but are a robust 20-8 at the friendly confines of Earl E. Wilson Stadium. This will be the second Big 12 school that UNLV will play this season after the Rebels dropped a pair of games at then-No. 17 Oklahoma State on March 24-25. UNLV is coming off a four-game sweep of Northern Colorado last weekend at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, which brought a close to a 10-game homestand in which the Rebels went 7-3. In the first game of the Rebels' series against the Bears, freshman right-hander Tanner Peters tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout in a 2-0 win, the fifth one-hitter in school history. UNLV then got the bats going the rest of the series, winning the next three games by scores of 11-1, 15-2 and 14-4. UNLV and UNC played a doubleheader on Saturday, and the Rebels won both games, making them a perfect 5-for-5 in sweeping double-dips from opponents. The Rebels earned a close 2-0 win on Friday, and then got going on offense in earning victories by the scores of 11-1, 15-2 and 14-4 ... Senior outfielder J.J. Sferra currently has a 27-game hitting streak, which started in the first game of a doubleheader against Saint Peter's College on Feb. 28, and during that span Sferra is hitting .491 (55-112) ... Overall Sferra leads the Rebels with a .437 batting average ... Jesse Wight has hit a team-high six home runs while Scott Berke has knocked in a team-leading 27 ... Freshman pitcher Tanner Peters is leading the Rebels on the mound, posting a strong rookie season with a 5-2 record to go with a 2.90 ERA and 51 strikeouts in nine starts ... UNLV head coach Buddy Gouldsmith has a career record of 167-174 (.490) and is in his sixth season ... The 167 wins are the second most in school history ... The Rebels opened the season by playing their first 14 games at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, which is tied for the third-longest such stretch in the nation.
RED RAIDERS AT A GLANCE
Texas Tech brings an 18-24 overall mark into the series after taking two-of-three games in a Big 12 series with Kansas last weekend in Lubbock, Texas ... The Red Raiders are 9-9 in Big 12 play ... Texas Tech split with MWC member New Mexico earlier this year in a two-game series in Lubbock, losing the opener 13-10 and then winning the next game, 6-3 ... At the plate TTU is hitting .295 as a team and are being paced by Scott LeJeune, who is hitting .348 (46-132) with two home runs and 26 RBI ... Chris Richburg is hitting .347 (.51-147) and has slugged 11 home runs to go with 40 RBI, both team highs ... Tuesday starter Nate Karns is 2-4 with a 5.67 ERA in eight starts, striking out 36 and walking 20 in 33.1 innings of work ... Texas Tech is coached by Dan Spencer, who is in his first season directing the Red Raiders.
