UNLV-UC Riverside Game Notes 
IN THE BATTER'S BOX
UNLV (25-27, 9-12 Mountain West) hits the road for its road game of the regular season, traveling to play UC Riverside (29-16, 8-10 Big West) on Tuesday, with the first pitch set for 6:00 p.m. (PT) at the Riverside Sports Complex. This is the final of a home-and-home series between the two clubs that started last Tuesday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, and that game was won by UC Riverside by a score of 22-5. UNLV is coming off a three-game sweet at the hands of BYU in the Rebels' last Mountain West Conference road series of the season, losing by scores of 15-12, 7-3 and 14-13. Including last Tuesday's loss to the Highlanders, the Rebels have lost four games in a row. UNLV is now 25-27 overall and 9-12 in the MWC after losing three games at BYU in what was the Rebels' final Mountain West Conference road trip of the regular season ... UNLV has now lost four in a row heading into the final week of the season ... Every starter in the Rebels lineup is hitting over .300, as the team is hitting a crisp .337 ... Senior outfielder J.J. Sferra saw his 28-game hitting streak come to and end on April 22, as he went 0-for-5 against the Red Raiders ... The streak is the third longest in school history and overall Sferra has a .39 (82-208) batting average ... Ryan Thornton has hit a team-high nine home runs and driven in a team-leading 40 runs ... Freshman pitcher Tanner Peters is leading the Rebels on the mound, posting a strong rookie season with a 5-5 record to go with a 4.64 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 12 starts ... The freshman threw the school's fifth one-hit complete game on April 17 in a 2-0 win over Northern Colorado ... UNLV head coach Buddy Gouldsmith has a career record of 172-183 (.485) and is in his sixth season ... The 172 wins are the second most in school history ... The Rebels opened the 2009 season by playing their first 14 games at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, which is tied for the third-longest such stretch in the nation.
HIGHLANDERS AT A GLANCE
UC Riverside brings a 29-16 overall mark and a 8-10 Big West Conference mark into Tuesday's game, and the Highlanders were ranked in the top 25 earlier this season ... UCR has won nine of its last 12 games, but lost two-of-three at UC Davis this past weekend ... The Highlanders are hitting .290 as a team with five regulars in the lineup hitting .322 or better ... UCR's 22 runs scored against UNLV last week was the Highlanders' school record ... The top hitter on the club is Michael Hur, who is hitting .373 (62-166) with six home runs and 41 RBI ... Tony Nix is hitting .338 and has 17 doubles and three home runs ... The Highlanders have posted a 4.13 ERA, and Tuesday starter Ryan Platt is 4-0 with a 4.50 ERA to go along with 45 strikeouts in 46.0 innings of work ... UCR closer Joseph Kelly has nine saves and a 4.44 ERA in 18 appearances, along with a 1-1 overall record and 17 strikeouts ...
