UNLV Caps Regular Season With No. 14 TCU

UNLV (26-27, 9-12 Mountain West) closes out its regular season at home with a three-game series against No. 14 TCU (32-14, 12-5 Mountain West), which gets underway Thursday at 7:00 p.m. (PT) at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The Rebels and Horned Frogs will play again on Friday at 7:00 p.m., and that game will be carried live by KSHP 1400 AM. They will then close out the series on Saturday at 12:00 p.m., and before that game UNLV will honor eight seniors playing in their final home game. UNLV is coming off an 8-6 road win at UC Riverside on Tuesday, ending the Rebels' four-game losing streak as they head into the final weekend of the regular season. REBELS AT A GLANCE

UNLV is now 26-27 overall and 9-12 in the MWC after beating UC Riverside by a score of 8-6 on the road Tuesday night ... Every starter but one in the Rebel lineup is hitting over .300, and the team is hitting a crisp .336 ... Senior outfielder J.J. Sferra saw his 28-game hitting streak come to and end on April 22, as he went 0-for-5 against the Red Raiders ... The streak was the third longest in school history and overall Sferra has a .385 (82-213) batting average ... Ryan Thornton and Jesse Wight each have hit nine home runs to share the team lead ... Freshman pitcher Tanner Peters is leading the Rebels on the mound, posting a strong rookie season with a 5-6 record to go with a 4.64 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 12 starts ... The freshman threw the school's fifth one-hit complete game on April 17 in a 2-0 win over Northern Colorado ... UNLV head coach Buddy Gouldsmith has a career record of 173-183 (.486) and is in his sixth season ... The 173 wins are the second most in school history ... The Rebels opened the 2009 season by playing their first 14 games at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, which is tied for the third-longest such stretch in the nation.

HORNED FROGS AT A GLANCE

No. 14 TCU brings a 32-14 overall mark and a 12-5 Mountain West Conference record into this weekend's series, and the Horned Frogs are in position to win their third straight regular-season crown ... The Horned Frogs are hitting .310 as a team with seven regulars in the lineup hitting .309 or better ... The top hitter on the club is Matt Vern, who is hitting .349 (52-149) with 12 home runs and 37 RBI ... TCU has posted a 4.15 team ERA, and Thursday starter Paul Gerrish is 4-1 with a 3.35 ERA to go along with 37 strikeouts in 37.2 innings of work ... Horned Frog closer Eric Marshall has seven saves and a 1.54 ERA in 19 appearances ... TCU is coached by Jim Schlossnagle, who is 243-116 in his sixth year the Horned Frogs, and he is 320-163 in eight years as a college coach, which includes a 77-47 record in two years at UNLV (2002-03).

REBELS TO HONOR SENIORS ON SATURDAY

UNLV will honor eight seniors who will be playing in their final game at Wilson Stadium before Saturday's contest. The Rebel seniors are: Marc Baca, Joe DiMaggio, Corey Hales, Anthony Morel, Bryan Resnick, J.J. Sferra, Ryan Thornton and Jesse Wight.
