Complete 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Teams

UNLV baseball senior Bryan Resnick was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today.
Resnick is the third Rebel baseball student-athlete to earn Academic All-American honors and the first since 1986, when Reed Peters earned honorable mention honors. Resnick was also the only Mountain West Conference representative on the three academic teams and overall this marks the 26th time that a UNLV student-athlete has earned Academic All-American honors.
"It is a real honor to be recognized for what a student-athlete should represent, both on and off the field," Resnick said. "I would like to thank head coach Buddy Gouldsmith and the entire coaching staff, as well as David Jackson from academic advising, for all of their help."
Resnick recently completed his master's degree in sports education leadership with a 3.82 GPA and has also earned his bachelor's degree cum laude in sports management with a 3.66 GPA. The native or Orange, Calif., was the regular starting second baseman for the Rebels the past two years and was named to the Academic All-MWC team and a MWC Scholar-Athlete in 2008. He also was a member of the UNLV Dean's List last year.
Resnick was elected to the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society and was an Outstanding Undergraduate Major Award winner. This season he hit .327 (74-226) with seven home runs, 35 RBI and 46 runs scored for UNLV, and he was also part of a double play combo that helped the Rebels lead the NCAA in double plays turned during the regular season.
"I couldn't be more proud of Bryan," Gouldsmith said. "It has been a privilege to coach him and he has been an example of what a student-athlete is all about, excelling on the field and in the classroom."
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
