LAS VEGAS - Fan conduct and tailgating reminders for UNLV football home games at Sam Boyd Stadium have been announced by UNLV's Interim Athletics Director Jerry Koloskie.
The tailgating parking lots at Sam Boyd Stadium open four hours prior to kickoff times. The tailgating lots will close 30 minutes prior to kickoff. Fans are expected to make their way into the stadium at that time. Following each contest, fans are expected to exit the tailgating lots at the stadium as soon as possible at the conclusion of the game.
"We want our fans to enjoy the environment and atmosphere at our football games this fall," Koloskie said. "In the past, we have had behavior by a small percentage of individuals during tailgating that is contrary to creating a safe and enjoyable environment for all of our fans. We are sending this message encouraging collegiality among all those who participate in the tailgating areas and within the stadium."
There will be increased security and police presence at points of entry to the stadium and individuals who appear to be intoxicated may be denied entrance to the stadium.
UNLV Athletics has a responsibility to provide a safe environment at all of its events, promoting integrity, civility, ethical conduct and good sportsmanship amongst fans, students and players in attendance. UNLV does not condone behavior or actions that are contrary to those goals and, at its discretion, along with local law enforcement, may terminate activities, reduce the available tailgating hours, or take other appropriate actions toward individuals, groups or organizations whose conduct is in violation of or conflict with regulations, ordinances and laws.
The UNLV Police Department would also like to remind everyone that individuals may be subject to DUI check points in and around the stadium. All fans are also reminded to drink responsibly.
There are several services available to assist with rides to and from the stadium. RTC Transit will provide service for the 2009 UNLV football season at Sam Boyd Stadium. Those traveling from the Las Vegas Strip can take Route 201 eastbound to Boulder Highway and then transfer to Route 601, which operates approximately every 20 minutes. Route 602 provides express service from the UNLV area to Sam Boyd Stadium. It is recommended that riders purchase a 24-hour pass for $4 to cover their complete round trip. For more information on RTC bus routes, CLICK HERE.
If fans are in need of a ride, they should visit any guest relations booth on the concourse at the stadium for assistance. Stadium representatives will be able to make any necessary phone calls to arrange a safe ride. In addition, all taxis are available in the west parking lot and the RTC bus stop is available on the west side of the stadium outside gate no. 1.
Additionally, UNLV, along with the Mountain West Conference, is committed to the ideals of good sportsmanship and fair play. As part of the MWC Sportsmanship Initiative, UNLV Athletics asks all persons to please show respect for the opposing team, game officials and each other. Persons throwing objects or participating in other acts in conflict with good sportsmanship and fair play are subject to ejection. Also, UNLV Athletics has implemented the Guest Assist program at Sam Boyd Stadium, which enables anyone with concerns about fan behavior to text "UNLV" with a message and seat location to 78247.
The fee for entrance into the Star Nursery Fields for tailgating has increased to $20 at the gate without a reserved space parking pass. Reserved tailgating spaces are still available by calling 702-895-0294.
