LAS VEGAS - UNLV Runnin' Rebel basketball will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its 1990 National Championship team Nov. 9-10, during a special Legends & Friends celebration, the athletics department announced Monday.

"This team is one of the greatest college basketball teams of all-time," said UNLV head coach Lon Kruger. "This is not only a special event for all of those ever directly involved in the program, but this is a special event for the entire Las Vegas community."
Many members of the national championship team have verbally committed to attend the function including coach Jerry Tarkanian and starters Greg Anthony, Larry Johnson, Anderson Hunt and David Butler. Stacey Augmon - an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets - said he will try to work around his team's NBA schedule to make at least part of the event, according to Interim UNLV Athletics Director Jerry Koloskie.
"The guys from the team are excited for the event and the opportunity to be together again," said Koloskie, who was also a part of the national championship team as its athletics trainer. "It was an amazing team and all of us involved with UNLV are looking forward to celebrating its accomplishments."
UNLV finished the 1989-90 season 35-5 overall and topped Duke 103-73 in the NCAA Tournament title game. The 30-point margin-of-victory is still a record for a national championship contest. The same nucleus of players returned UNLV to the Final Four in 1990-91, finishing the year 34-1 and cementing itself as one of the great college basketball teams in history.
On Monday evening (Nov. 9), a National Championship 20th Anniversary Gala will be held at Green Valley Ranch Resort honoring the 1989-90 UNLV Runnin' Rebel team. A cocktail reception will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner and presentation set for 7:30 p.m. Tables (featuring 10 seats) as well as individual tickets will be available to the public to purchase. Tickets are $1000 per table and $100 per person. Those purchasing a table, will receive a special commemorative gift. To register for the event, please call 702-895-3295. Seating is limited.
Immediately following the gala on Monday night, an after party will be held between the Drop Bar and Quinn's on the casino floor of the Green Valley Ranch Resort.
The 4th Annual Legends & Friends Golf Classic will tee off on Tuesday (Nov. 10) at 10 a.m. at Dragon Ridge Golf and Country Club. For more information on participating, contact the Rebel Athletic Fund at (702) 895-4753.
UNLV will then host Washburn in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center. The 1990 National Championship team will also be honored at halftime of the game.
Immediately following the UNLV game vs. Washburn, the annual Legends Game featuring former Runnin' Rebel players from all eras playing basketball will be featured at the Thomas & Mack Center. Admission to the UNLV Runnin' Rebel game is required.
