ON THE SIDELINES: The UNLV Rebels return to Las Vegas for a four-match stretch beginning with back-to-back contests on Oct. 23 and 24 with San Diego State and UMKC, respectively. Both matches are slated for 1:00 pm first serves.
REBEL REWIND: The UNLV Rebels went 1-1 last weekend in their two home Mountain West Conference matches with a five-set win over Wyoming (Oct. 7) followed by a three-set loss to #17 Colorado State (Oct. 9).
Sara Nehf led UNLV offensively and defensively with 24 kills and 30 digs in the two matches. Nehf registered her first double-double of 2010 and eighth of her career with a 15-kill, 20-dig performance against the Cowgirls. She followed up that effort with nine kills and 10 digs vs. Colorado State. She owned per-set averages of 3.00 and 3.75 in kills and digs, respectively. She also chipped in four assisted blocks, two aces and one assist.
Amanda Alles and Kendra Glendenning split setting duties for UNLV and dished out 33 and 30 assists, respectively. Glendenning topped the duo in the Wyoming contest with 22 compared to Alles' 20, while Alles took the top spot in the CSU match with 13 tallies.
At the net, Candice Thomas led the Rebels in blocks with nine assisted putbacks. Madeline Westman followed closely behind with eight of her own, which included two of the solo variety.
DOUBLING UP AGAINST WYOMING: Sara Nehf registered her first double-double of the 2010 campaign against the Wyoming Cowgirls on Oct. 7, with a 15-kill, 20-dig performance. Coincidentally, Nehf is no stranger to achieving the feat against Wyoming, as the senior outside-hitter now owns four against the program. In all, she has eight double-doubles for her career.
RECORD BOOK RAMBLINGS: The UNLV Rebels have seen the record book welcome some of their current players into the fold with help from their play this season. Amanda Alles ranks the highest of any Rebel with a sixth-place showing in assists with 851. Kela Lau Hee ranks 10th in digs with 707, while Sara Nehf is in the same position in attempts with 1,907. Nehf is on the outside looking in in the kill department with 698. She needs 24 to tie Sheila Nicks (1984-85) tally of 722.
