UNLV will split into two teams early on for inter squad scrimmages to be played every Friday and Saturday through the third week of November. The Rebels will host practices open to the public Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with most sessions beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Coach Chambers and the Rebels will play a Red vs. Black world series in late November, marking the conclusion of the fall ball season. Teams will be picked by the coaching staff and the series will consist of either a best-of-three or best-of-five format to be played at Wilson Stadium. Dates and times for the Red and Black world series will be announced mid-November.
The Rebels will conclude the fall schedule in late November and resume practice in January of 2011 in preparation for the upcoming season. UNLV will play over half of its scheduled games at home in 2011, including 15 of the first 21 to start the year. The Red and Black will also square up against six teams that qualified for postseason play a year ago, including conference rivals TCU, a College World Series semifinalist, and New Mexico for six games apiece.
Coach Chambers comes to UNLV from the College of Southern Nevada where he was the Scneic West Athletic conference Coach of the Year four times, including last season when the Coyotes posted a 52-16 record and reached the national semifinals. Chambers' 2010 CSN squad was led by the No. 1 overall pick in the June Major League Baseball Draft, Bryce Harper.
