LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels (7-16, 2-7 MWC) dropped a four-set match by a 3-1 margin to the New Mexico Lobos (14-8, 6-2 MWC) Friday night in the Cox Pavilion. New Mexico claimed the match with set scores of 22-25, 25-17, 25-9, 25-19.
UNM out-hit UNLV by a .328 to .171 margin and threw down 19 more kills (61-to-42) on one less attempt (128-to-129). The Lobos came out of the gate hitting .049 in the first set before turning their offense around with three consecutive frames of hitting .268 and higher. They cranked out a .517 effort in the second before one-upping themselves with a .824 clip in the third frame before closing out the match with a .268 in the third. UNLV, on the other hand, hit above the .188 mark three times, but also had a -.053 third stanza.
Sara Nehf led the Rebels with a 15-kill effort in the match. Nehf fell two digs shy of tallying a double-double with eight on the night.
Madeline Westman hit a team-high .533 in the match with nine kills and only one error in 15 swings. Westman also contributed four assisted blocks, two digs and one ace.
Kendra Glendenning and Amanda Alles split the setting duties for UNLV with them dishing out 17 and 15 assists, respectively. Glendenning added five digs, while Alles had five blocks (one solo), one dig and one kill.
Kela Lau Hee led the Rebels defensively with a team-high 13 digs and also had two assists.
New Mexico had four players notch double digits in kills with Lisa Meeter's 20 leading the way. Taylor Hadfield was second on the squad with 15, while Kelly Williamson had 13 to Ashley Rhoades' 10.
Jade Michaelsen owned a match-high 49 assists and chipped in seven digs, two assisted blocks, one ace and one kill.
Allison Buck and Mariah Agre both notched double figures in digs with the former amassing 16 to the latter's 13.
UNLV is back in action Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm when the TCU Horned Frogs visit the Cox Pavilion for a televised contest aired by CBS College Sports.
