FIRST SERVE: The UNLV Rebels hit the road for the remainder of the 2010 campaign beginning with this week's contest against the San Diego State Aztecs on Thursday night at 7:00 pm. UNLV closed out its home portion of its schedule last week with a back-to-back five-set matches against BYU and Utah.
ON THE SIDELINES: The UNLV Rebels close out the 2010 campaign with a road match against the Air Force Falcons the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 26 at 7:00 pm.
REBEL REWIND: The UNLV Rebels went 1-1 last week with a split in five-set matches against the BYU Cougars and Utah Utes. UNLV lost on Thursday evening to BYU before rebounding with a win on "Senior Day" against Utah.
Sara Nehf led the Rebel offense in kills with 40 for a 4.00 per-set average, as she threw down 21 and 19, respectively, against the Cougars and Utes. Nehf notched her 11th career double-double in the BYU contest with a combined effort of 21 kills and 14 digs. She also pitched in three total blocks (one solo) and two assists on the weekend.
Kendra Glendenning joined Nehf in the double-double category with one of her own against Utah with 17 assists and 17 digs. On the weekend, Glendenning had a total of 35 assists, 24 digs and one ace.
Amanda Alles added a double-double of her own in the Utah contest when she combined 22 assists with 11 total blocks (six solo). In all, Alles contributed 48 assists for a 4.80 per-set average and also chipped in 13 total blocks, eight digs, five kills and two aces.
Kela Lau Hee led a contingent of defenders with 45 digs (4.50 ps), including a career-high 26 in the BYU match. Lau Hee was one of four to amass 20 or more digs with Nile Te'o (27), Glendenning (24) and Nehf (21) rounding out the quartet.
At the net, Madeline Westman joined Alles in the block party with 12 total tallies of her own. Westman registered three of the solo variety and nine assisted. She has two apiece in the BYU match and the one solo and seven assisted against Utah.
RECORD BOOK RAMBLINGS: The UNLV Rebels have seen the career and single-season record book welcome some of their current players into the fold with help from their play this season.
Career
~Kela Lau Hee ranks fifth overall in digs with 858 and needs 65 more to move into fourth.
~Amanda Alles sits seventh overall in assists with 997 and needs three more to become the seventh with 1,000 in a career.
~Sara Nehf sits seventh overall in total attempts with 2,355 and needs 32 more to move into sixth.
~Sara Nehf sits eighth in overall kills with 853 and needs 28 more to move into seventh.
Single-Season:
~Kela Lau Hee sits sixth overall in digs with 393 this season and needs 26 more to move into fifth and seven more to become the sixth to record 400 in a given year.
~Madeline Westman sits seventh overall in assisted blocks with 94 and needs five more to into fifth and needs six more to become the fifth to record 100 in a given year.
~Madeline Westman sits 10th overall in total blocks with 110 and needs four more to move into eighth.
~Candice Thomas sits tied for eighth overall with three former Rebels with 19 solo blocks apiece. Thomas needs two more to move into sixth.
REBELS HOST SENIOR-DAY BLOCK PARTY: The UNLV Rebels recorded 20 total blocks in Sunday's 3-2, "Senior Day" win over Utah. UNLV registered 11 solo blocks and 18 assisted blocks in the contest. Amanda Alles led the Rebel blockers with six solo and five assisted tallies. Alles' six solo putbacks were one shy of Lynette Richan's seven registered against Northern Arizona on Sept. 14, 1984.
